My Blog

Author:Philip BeadleCreated:Monday, September 15, 2008 10:40 AM
This blog is more general than my Blog at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/Default.aspx. You'll find mostly technical tips and tricks and things i am doing in the MS user group community.

I cant believe the complete incompetence of BigPond Broadband. I am still offline and have a Technician coming out to my house tomorrow to fix the stuff up. That will be 16 days offline.

What really annoys me is the total lack of accountability inside BigPond, no-one cares and no-one gets fired for being useless, they just put you through to another department. I had 9 departments on a call on Saturday, thats ridiculous and no-one could really tell me what the problem was. Today I found out that the exchange is not synchronised on the port I'm using (or some cock and bull story).

So we'll see how tomorrow pans out.

After having nearly 600 posts wiped when Telligent upgraded the Forums on ASP.Net I have finally got back to the 1000 posts mark.

 1000 Posts on asp.net

Philip at AFL Headquarters

Last Friday I read on www.whirlpool.net.au that Telstra were providing ADSL2 now J Woohoo.  This is 4 weeks after me ringing and Telstra telling me they weren’t going to do ADSL2.

So the guy on Friday says “we have to cancel your ADSL 1 to set up ADSL 2.  This will happen next week and when ADSL2 is setup you can cancel your ADSL1 account.”  IE I’m not going offline while all this happens.

Monday I’m working away and internet dies on me.  So I rang BigPond and they tell me that my account has been cancelled so that ADSL 2 can be setup and Ill be offline for 3 days.  Things aren’t looking good now, no internet for 3 days oh well ill just go to Docklands and work here till Wednesday J

So on Wednesday I rang to see how things were progressing, “Your application for ADSL 2 has been cancelled on Tuesday at your request and you were informed of the outstanding balance”.  Now this is interesting in that I’m now REALLY PISSSED OFF and I dit call on Tuesday nor did I get informed of the account balance.  So after nearly 2 hours of talking to fools and idiots I am informed that ADSL 2 will be setup in another 3 days and there was no need to cancel my original account it will just happen like magic.  If I leave my modem (Which is ADSL2 already) pugged in the lights will come on and the  fairies will all dance around.  (getting sarcastic here).  So Im happy again Ill be back online on Monday now that’s a whole week offline now.

So today I ring again to make sure the dipsh*ts haven’t stuffed me around again.  Well guess what, to get ADSL 2 you have to cancel your ADSL 1 account coz the codes are different and ADSL 2 cannot un on ADSL1 coded lines!!!  Of cours we already knew this because this is what I setup last Friday.  Not happy Jan.  So now I finally find a consultant (shouldn’t use that word since I’m a consultant but have a vague idea of what I’m supposed to do for a job) who seems to know what she staling about and now Ill be back online next THURSDAY!!!!

The corner stone of our state of the art telecommunications network is a bunch of monkeys winding lacky bands and licking windows.

More on Monday when they promise to call me back about the status of my account.

Cheers (I’ll be at Docklands till next Thursday if you need a beer)

I'm nearly up to 1000 posts on the asp.net forums.  I nearly made it before but an upgrade of the forums a while ago dropped about 400 of my posts which I was NOT happy about.  Anyway should make 1000 by next week.

Well we're off growing our Mo's at Readify.

Here's my Choppa look:

Philip's mo for Movember

.

In ancient Israel , it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a young wife by the name of Dot. And Dot Com was a comely woman, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she had been called "Amazon Dot Com."

And she said unto Abraham, her husband, "Why dost thou travel far from town to town with thy goods when thou canst trade without leaving thy tent?"

And Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, "How, dear?" And Dot replied, "I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale and they will reply telling you which hath the best price. And the sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS)."

Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever moving from his tent.

But this success did arouse envy. A man named Maccabia did secret himself inside Abraham's drum and was accused of insider trading. And the young man did take to Dot Com's trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung. They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Siderites, or NERDS for short.

And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to the drum maker, one Brother William of Gates, who bought up every drum company in the land. And indeed did insist on making drums that would work only with Brother Gates' drumheads and drumsticks.

And Dot did say, "Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others."

And as Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel , or as it came to be known, "eBay," he said, "We need a name that reflects what we are."

And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators."

"YAHOO," said Abraham.

And that is how it all began. It wasn't Al Gore after all.

I thought these questions from Daniel warranted a post. ?

Is it possible to be passionate without being a zealot?
Being passionate without being a zealot requires you to allow others to express their point of view without you deriding their POV.  A passionate person can learn from others a zealot will not. ?

If someone came up with something better than the .net framework, would you switch?
Better is a POV.  If the whole package of being a .Next programmer industry type was there then yes.  ?

How much of your identity is bound to being a .net programmer ?
Proportion of the day/week spent thinking about the internet/code/crazy ideas (including sleep/lucid dream time) = 70%.  The rest is family, food and fun.

Ok so now we're into it.  Gro a Mo for Movember. So far we have a team of 15 frm Readify called the Readify Mo Madness team.  You can sponsor us by going here and searching for our team name, then sponsor a person when you get there.

Thanx in advance if you do
